Mary Lou was born and raised in rural Ontario. This background fuels her passion for painting wildlife and nature. Being completely self taught, she has been developing her skills since childhood.
Her desire for realism, inspires her to research and study in detail her subjects. You will discover in her painting her sensitivity, honesty and love of nature. When asked if she had a favourite bird she quickly replies, “chickadee because they are happy and joyful whether you feed them or not they are there for you."
The reclaimed cedar shakes originate in 2 foot pieces which are cut in lengths to Mary Lou’s specifications. The centre is sanded creating a smooth surface and primed to accept the acrylic paint used in her painting of the birds. Once the image is complete the cedar shake is sprayed with a varnish, holes drilled to accept roping for hanging indoors or outdoors. Each cedar shake is unique in bird pose and never duplicated.
