The Passion Behind Stained Glass

A love of how light and especially the look of the sun shining through brilliant colours of glass, pulled Mary McIsaac towards exploring the process of making stained glass. 15-20 years ago it started with a Parks and Recreations course “Intro to Stained Glass.” The basics led her to the self-discovery of learning by just doing, making mistakes, breaking glass, and learning each time.

Now, 15-20 years later, newly retired Mary has unpacked all her glass, grinder, hand held glass cutter and to the benefit of many, is once again creating sharing her passion to create stained glass. Mary’s expression of how she loves making special orders that are meaningful to just the person ordering, is rewarded when a tearful recipient shows how much the piece means so much to them. In the creation of special orders Mary’s daughter Sarah, lends her talents in pattern designing for those one of a kind requests.

When Mary’s father retired from dentistry, he took up bird carving. He always told Mary that when she retired to be sure she had a hobby. He was right. Mary fills her days creating new pieces and loving what she does. Like her father, she has a passion for creating birds. Although  more consuming as the pieces are very small, Mary loves the end result when she sees a new piece hanging in the window.
